English Premier League continues trend

The year of 2009 will be remembered as the one in which the face of the English Premier League was changed forever. This is as a result of the fact that the nature of the companies that sponsor these teams is now incredibly different compared to how it used to be and this is all due to the fact that there is an economic crisis and that companies are simply no longer able to afford these sponsorships. They are not as cash flush as they used to be and this means that the various football teams have to look to new sponsors as they try to make sure that they stand the best possible chance in a league that continues to become ever more competitive. The stakes seem to be higher every year and the sponsors need to make sure that they can match the requirements.

This year has seen a number of clubs signing with online gambling companies as these seem to be the only ones that have the required amount of cash necessary to get involved with Premier League clubs. Nottingham Forest and Chelsea have both announced partnerships with online gambling companies in the last month and it seems that they are not the only ones .This week it was announced that another team is also to continue with the same trend and there are likely to be some more interesting announcements along the same vein as the season progresses.

The latest team to sign with an online gambling company is Portsmouth. Sportingbet is to be their partner for the season and the sponsorship period is likely to be extended depending on the success of the first season. This trend is very interesting compared to the United States where organizations such as the National Football League are very reluctant to have their teams sponsored by companies such as these. The way things are going with the economy in the United States though, they might have to change their tune at some stage.

Examples such as the English Premier League are indicative not only of the changing economic environment but also the fact that they are in combination with countries that have good regulatory frame works in place when it comes to the online gambling market. So this is necessary and this is something that the United States government will have to get sorted out before we are likely to see increased instances of sponsorship from online gambling companies.
